A federal award is the federal financial assistance or the cost-reimbursement contract under the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) that a non-Federal entity receives from a federal awarding entity or indirectly through a pass-through entity. Federal funding may be awarded to a company, organization, government entity (e.g., state, local, tribal, federal, or foreign), or individual. It may be obligated (promised) in the form of a contract, grant, loan, insurance, direct payment, etc. For more information see 2 CFR 200.38.
